LexisNexis MCP and Lexis Claude Connector: Can Claude Reach Lexis+ with Protégé, and What It Costs
Westlaw and Harvey both sell a way into Claude. LexisNexis did the opposite and brought Claude into Protégé. Here is what exists, what each route costs per lawyer, and the published options if you want real case law behind Claude today.
In short
There is no official LexisNexis MCP connector for Claude. The Claude marketplace lists connectors for CoCounsel Legal, Harvey and Paxton, but not Lexis. LexisNexis went the other way: since May 2026 it runs 12 Anthropic legal plugins inside Lexis+ with Protégé, which has no published price and is reported at about 128 to 494 dollars per user per month. Case law connectors that do work in Claude start at 25 dollars a month.
How we checked this. On 26 September 2026 we requested the Claude marketplace pages for LexisNexis and several name variants, alongside the pages for Harvey, Paxton and CoCounsel Legal and one address that has never existed. The Harvey, Paxton and CoCounsel pages load with their own titles; every Lexis variant returns the same not-found page as the invented one. We then read the LexisNexis announcement of 13 May 2026 and the Protégé coverage that followed. Prices come from each vendor's own pricing page, and anything not published by the vendor is labeled reported. Informational research, not legal advice.

Claude inside Lexis, not Lexis inside Claude
Most people searching for a Lexis Claude plugin picture the Westlaw arrangement: open Claude, ask a question, and get Lexis authority back. That product does not exist. What LexisNexis announced on 13 May 2026 was "Anthropic's Claude legal plugin suite" integrated into Lexis+ with Protégé, grounded in what it calls a repository of 200 billion legal documents. You work in the Lexis interface, and Claude-built skills do some of the work behind it.

What the integration gives you
Drafting and review skills that plan multi-step work, produce memos, decks and trackers from one prompt, and ground the output in Lexis content with Shepard's checks. LexisNexis describes the stack as "LexisNexis-developed and Anthropic-powered skills."
What it does not give you
A way to reach Lexis from your own Claude workspace. Your Claude projects, connected drives and chat history stay on the Claude side; Lexis content stays in Lexis. If your firm standardized on Claude Team, this integration does not plug into it.
What it costs

The real goal behind a LexisNexis MCP search is usually simple: Claude drafting from verified authority instead of from memory. These are the routes that exist today, including the ones that do not involve LexisNexis at all.

On the community MCP servers. A search for "LexisNexis MCP" turns up directory pages that make it look like a finished product. The listing we read on 26 September 2026 was marked community built, had no verified public repository, and its install command pointed at a package that was not published. Even a working version would call LexisNexis APIs, which are licensed separately from a Lexis+ seat. Treat these as developer projects, not something to put client work through.
On the browser route. Letting Claude drive a Lexis+ tab you are signed in to is easy, and several guides recommend it. It is still your licensed seat being operated by an agent, so read the automated-access terms in your subscriber agreement before making it a firm habit.

Claude prices were re-read on claude.com on 25 September 2026: Pro is 20 dollars monthly or 17 billed annually, and a Team standard seat is 20 billed annually or 25 monthly, for teams of 2 to 150. Team is the plan claude.com describes as not training on your content by default, which matters for client material.

The Lexis rows are the only ones built on reported numbers, and that is the point worth taking into a negotiation. Thomson Reuters publishes Westlaw Advantage at 256.75 to 399.75 dollars per user per month for firms up to 10 attorneys, so a Westlaw quote has a visible floor under it. A Protégé quote has nothing under it at all. Where Lexis wins. Shepard's. Nothing else on this list carries Shepard's treatment into the drafting, and for a practice whose judges and opponents speak in Shepard's signals, keeping the whole workflow inside Lexis is a defensible reason to pay the quote. The Claude plugins make that workflow stronger without making you learn a second tool.
Where Cases fits. Cases is not a Claude connector and does not claim to be. You ask a legal question in plain English and read the US federal and state decisions that answer it, each as a card with the holding and a citation you can open. For many lawyers that is the step they wanted Claude to do, and the drafting can follow in any assistant. It costs 29 dollars a month, or 24 billed yearly, with no sales call. Grounded AI still needs a lawyer reading the case
Grounding Claude in a real library cuts the odds of an invented case. It does not move responsibility for the filing. The public AI hallucination cases database kept by Damien Charlotin listed 2,077 decisions as of 23 September 2026, and the sanctions in those rulings land on filings nobody checked, not on the choice of tool.
ABA Formal Opinion 512 frames the same duty as competence, confidentiality with informed client consent, and candor to the tribunal. Whichever route you pick, open every case the AI cites and read it. Cases returns real US decisions with the citation on every card; Starter is not a citator, and Pro adds a good-law flag that marks cases to re-verify rather than a Shepard's report.

Is there a LexisNexis Claude connector?
No, not as of 26 September 2026. The Claude marketplace lists connectors from Thomson Reuters (CoCounsel Legal), Harvey and Paxton, but a LexisNexis connector page returns the same not-found response as a made-up address. LexisNexis integrated Anthropic's Claude legal plugins inside Lexis+ with Protégé instead, so the Claude capability lives in Lexis, not Lexis content in Claude.
Does LexisNexis have an MCP server?
Not an official one that we could find. Can Claude access Lexis+ with my login?
Technically, yes: Claude can operate a browser tab where you are signed in to Lexis+ and read what you could read. That is your seat being used by an agent, and research platforms license content per user under a subscriber agreement. Read your LexisNexis terms before relying on it for firm work, and never let an agent share a seat between people.
What is the difference between the Lexis and Westlaw approaches to Claude?
They run in opposite directions. Thomson Reuters built a CoCounsel Legal connector so Claude can send research jobs to Westlaw and get cited reports back. LexisNexis brought Claude plugins into its own Protégé interface. Both need a subscription sold by quote. With Westlaw you work in Claude; with Lexis you work in Lexis.
What is the cheapest way to get case law into Claude?
Descrybe Legal Engine publishes 25 dollars a month for research tools and a citator inside Claude, and Free Law Project runs a CourtListener connector at no charge with public opinions but no headnotes. Each needs a paid Claude plan, from 20 dollars. If you only need to find and read the cases, a 29 dollar search seat works without any connector.
Does Claude replace Lexis for legal research?
No. Claude has no case law library of its own, so authority must come from a connected source or research done elsewhere, and every citation still needs to be opened and read. The public AI hallucination cases database lists more than 2,000 court decisions dealing with fabricated or unverified AI citations, and the sanctions fall on the lawyer who filed.
