Legal
Refund Policy
Effective October 14, 2026
Cases plans are paid ahead for each month or year, and a payment that has been taken stays taken. Below are the reasons behind that, the three situations in which we do return a charge, and how to make sure the next period is not billed. This policy is part of our Terms of Service.
Paying for a period, not for searches
A plan gives you and the seats on it access to Cases legal research for the billing period: case search, cited answers and the other features of your plan on the pricing page. Access for the whole period begins when it is paid. Whether you ran three hundred queries that month or none, the price is the same, because the fee pays for the period of access. All payments are final apart from the three cases further down.
When you subscribe you ask us to start immediately, and you accept that any statutory withdrawal or cooling-off right ends when the service starts.
Not a ground for a refund
- Your matter settled, your practice changed or you no longer need a research tool.
- Few or no searches during a paid period.
- An answer, summary or suggested authority you disagree with. Cases is a starting point for research, and every citation is yours to verify, as the Terms explain.
- A case or jurisdiction that our sources do not cover in the depth you hoped for.
- A renewal you forgot to cancel, or cancelled just after it was charged.
- Expecting a one-time purchase. Every plan is recurring, which the pricing page, checkout, confirmation email and account state.
- A feature that is not on the pricing page, or that works differently from what you assumed.
- The wrong plan, billing period or number of seats.
- Someone using your account with login details you shared.
The three exceptions
We return a charge only when one of these applies, the records support it, and only up to what was paid for the period concerned.
- Billed twice. Our billing took two payments for the same period by mistake.
- An unauthorised charge that can be shown. Your card was used without your permission, you report it within 14 days of the charge, and our records and our payment operator's records confirm it. Asserting it is not enough, and we may ask you to confirm that you told your card issuer.
- Cases was down entirely. A confirmed fault on our side made the service completely unusable for a continuous period, you reported it at the time, and we could not restore it. Slow answers, a gap in one source and problems with your own device or network do not qualify.
An approved return goes to the card that paid, covers our whole liability for that charge, and does not give a right to a further one.
Cancelling and renewal
Plans renew automatically. You can cancel at any time from your account, without asking us. Nothing more is charged, and your access continues until the paid period runs out. There is no refund for the days that remain.
Cancelling looks forward. A renewal already charged stays charged, and you keep that period. If a renewal payment fails, it is still owed for a period that has started, so the card is retried over the next few days. The retries settle one unpaid invoice and are not new charges, and a renewal paid after them is not refundable. To avoid a renewal, cancel before the date shown in your account.
How to ask for a review
Email [email protected] from your account address within 14 days of the charge, giving the date, the amount and the exception that applies. Requests that come later or by another route are not reviewed, and declined ones are not reopened.
What we keep
Creating an account means accepting the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy, this policy included. The checkout states the plan, the price, the billing period and the automatic renewal before payment, and the confirmation email and account repeat them.
For each subscription we keep the time of purchase, the plan and price shown, the acceptance of the Terms, the emails we sent, and the account activity log (sign-ins, seats added, searches run), with the technical details recorded alongside each entry. Our payment operator keeps its own record of every charge, including the card's country of issue, where the payment came from and the outcome of bank authentication such as 3D Secure. Unauthorised-charge claims are checked against these records.
Chargebacks
Please come to us before your bank. A chargeback opened without contacting us first breaches the Terms and the account is closed permanently. When a dispute is opened, we provide the card issuer with the records above.
Earlier purchases
Subscriptions bought before October 14, 2026 stay on the terms that applied on the day they were bought.
