Harvey AI vs Claude Pricing for Law Firms and What a 60x Seat Gap Buys
Cases
Claude publishes its price and Harvey does not. On 8 October 2026 claude.com listed Team at 20 dollars per seat per month billed annually (25 monthly) and Pro at 20 a month. Harvey's pricing URL returns a 404, and third-party reports put it near 1,200 dollars per seat per month with a floor of 20 to 25 seats. That is roughly 60 times the Claude Team seat, for a platform whose chief executive says it runs on Claude models.
So the useful question is not which one is smarter. It is what the other 1,180 dollars a month buys, and whether your firm would use it. This comparison is for a US managing partner or practice lead pricing legal AI this quarter, with a Harvey demo booked or a Claude Team invoice already in hand. We read claude.com/pricing, claude.com/solutions/legal and harvey.ai on 8 October 2026, and on harvey.ai we also requested a page that never existed: it returned the same 404 as the pricing URL, so the missing price is a real absence. It is informational research, not legal advice.

How much does Harvey AI cost compared with Claude?
Every Claude figure below is published on Anthropic's own pricing page. Every Harvey figure is reported, because Harvey sells only through a demo and a quote. The annual column is our arithmetic on list prices before tax.
| Plan | Price per seat | Smallest purchase | One year for 5 lawyers | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Pro | 20 a month, or 200 a year | 1 person | 1,000 (five separate accounts) | Published |
| Claude Team, standard seat | 20 a month billed annually, 25 monthly | 2 seats, up to 150 | 1,200 | Published |
| Claude Team, premium seat | 100 a month billed annually, 125 monthly | 2 seats | 6,000 | Published |
| Claude Enterprise | 20 a month plus usage at API rates, annual | Through sales | 1,200 plus usage | Published base |
| Harvey | About 1,200 a month, 12 month term | 20 to 25 seats, reported | Not sold at this size | Reported |
At 25 lawyers, the reported Harvey floor, the gap is 360,000 dollars a year for Harvey against 6,000 for Claude Team standard seats or 30,000 for premium seats. Write-ups on Harvey also report renewal uplifts of 10 to 25 percent, which is worth asking about before year one is signed. Our Harvey AI pricing page keeps the published and reported figures apart, and the Harvey AI pricing review walks through where the 1,200 figure comes from.
Does Harvey use Claude?
Yes, among other models. On Anthropic's legal solutions page, Harvey's chief executive Winston Weinberg is quoted saying Claude Opus 4.7 "scored 90.9% on Harvey's BigLaw Bench, the highest of any Claude model", and that "the Harvey for Claude Connector brings our legal intelligence directly into Claude." Harvey has used models from more than one lab since 2025, so Claude is one engine inside Harvey, not the whole product.
That connector matters for pricing. Third-party setup guides describe it as a beta, read-only connection that signs in with your Harvey account. It brings Harvey into Claude for people who already pay for Harvey. It is not a cheap side door to Harvey for people who do not.
What does Harvey give you that Claude does not?
Four things, and a buyer should price each one separately rather than accept the bundle.
A US case law source. Claude has no case law library. Harvey, under its June 2025 alliance with LexisNexis, answers research questions from Lexis primary law with Shepard's Citations. For litigators, this is the line item that justifies most of the gap, and it is also the one you can buy elsewhere. Ask whether the Lexis content is in your Harvey quote or assumes a Lexis subscription the firm already holds.
Work over your own files. Harvey's Vault reviews large document sets and matter files. Claude Team can read uploaded documents and connects to iManage and NetDocuments, so for a small firm this gap is narrower than it looks in a demo.
Firm workflows. Harvey ships legal workflows, including motion drafting built with LexisNexis. Claude ships practice-area plugins for commercial, corporate, IP and litigation work that a firm configures with its own playbook. One is built for you; the other you build.
An enterprise security file. Harvey publishes SOC 2 Type II and several ISO certifications and sells data residency. Claude Enterprise adds audit logs, SCIM and custom retention. A firm with a formal vendor review will want both files in writing.
Can Claude replace Harvey for legal research?
Not on its own. Claude is a strong analyst and drafter, but without a connected legal source it answers from training data and the open web, which is where fabricated citations come from. Anthropic's own legal page routes case law through a Thomson Reuters connector, and that connector needs a CoCounsel Legal subscription, which Thomson Reuters publishes at 784 dollars per attorney per month on a 1-year plan for firms of up to 10 attorneys and quotes above that. Our Westlaw Claude connector page sets out what that path really costs.
There are cheaper routes. Descrybe sells a connector that puts its case law engine inside Claude for a published 25 dollars a month, covered on our Descrybe AI pricing page. Or keep the jobs apart: use Claude to draft and summarize, and use a grounded case law search to find the authority. Whichever route you take, open every case before it goes in a filing. Courts sanctioned lawyers repeatedly through 2025 and 2026 for citations an AI model invented, and none of those orders accepted the tool as an excuse.
Is Claude safe for confidential client information?
It depends on the plan, not the model. Claude's plan grid lists model training as opt-out on Free, Pro and Max, and states no training on your content by default on Team and Enterprise. ABA Formal Opinion 512, issued July 2024, treats this as a Rule 1.6 question, so a firm putting client material into Claude should be on Team at minimum, which means at least two seats even for a solo.
The question changes once Claude can act, not just answer. When a firm connects it to the document management system, email and e-signature tools, the risk moves from what the model is trained on to what an agent can reach and send. Firms going that far usually put controls on which tools and data an AI agent may touch in front of the connectors, and a quote from Harvey should be read with the same question in mind: who can the system act for, and on what.
Which should a small or mid-sized firm buy?
Count lawyers first. Under 20, Harvey is usually not for sale on standard terms, so the real comparison is Claude plus a research source against the platforms that sell to smaller firms. Legora is the closest Harvey-style platform with a lower reported floor, near 10 seats, and we set the two side by side in Legora vs Harvey pricing and seat floors. For a five lawyer firm, Claude Team standard seats and a dedicated case law search come to a few thousand dollars a year; Harvey is not a number you can get.
That second seat is what we sell. Cases does one job: you ask a legal question in plain English and read the US federal and state decisions that answer it, each with a citation you can open. It is 49 dollars per user per month, or 24 billed yearly, with no seat floor and no sales call, and it sits next to Claude rather than replacing it. We have no citator, so verify before you file. If you want the other options on the same basis, our list of Harvey AI alternatives with published prices covers nine of them, and Vincent AI vs Claude runs the same comparison against the vLex product.
Harvey AI vs Claude questions
Is Harvey AI built on Claude?
Partly. Harvey uses large language models from several labs, and Anthropic's legal page quotes Harvey's chief executive saying Claude Opus 4.7 scored 90.9 percent on Harvey's BigLaw Bench. What Harvey adds on top is LexisNexis case law and Shepard's through a 2025 alliance, document review in Vault, ready-made legal workflows and an enterprise contract with a reported 20 to 25 seat floor.
How much is Claude for lawyers?
The same as for anyone, because Anthropic sells no lawyer-specific plan. Read on claude.com on 8 October 2026: Pro is 20 dollars a month or 200 a year, Max starts at 100 a month, Team is 20 dollars per standard seat billed annually or 25 monthly for 2 to 150 seats, and Enterprise is 20 per seat plus usage at API rates. The legal plugins come with those plans.
Is Claude good for legal research?
Claude is good at reading, summarizing and reasoning over cases you give it, and weak at finding authority on its own, because it has no case law library unless you connect one. Anthropic routes legal research through a Thomson Reuters connector that requires a CoCounsel Legal subscription. Use it with a grounded source, and open every citation it names before relying on it.
Does Harvey AI have a free trial?
No. Harvey has no free trial, no free tier and no self-serve signup; access starts with a demo request and a sales quote on an annual term. Claude Pro and Team can be bought by card the same day. If you want to test case law search before any sales call, Cases lets you run a real search on this page before you pay.
